Mats form where your dog moves the most: behind the ears, under the collar, in the armpits and around the tail. Five minutes a day in those spots saves a lot of discomfort later.
The routine
- Brush down to the skin with a slicker brush, a small section at a time.
- Follow with a metal comb. If it snags, go back with the brush.
- Finish with a treat, every time.
If you find a mat that won’t come out, don’t cut it with scissors. Skin tents up into mats and is easy to nick. Our groomers can remove it safely, usually in a few minutes.
