Dogs are considered seniors around age seven, earlier for large breeds. They slow down, but many of the changes we see can be eased with a few adjustments.
At home
- Rugs or runners on slippery floors.
- A thick, supportive bed away from drafts.
- Shorter, more frequent walks instead of one long one.
At the clinic
We recommend checkups every six months for seniors, with blood work once a year. Catching kidney, thyroid or joint changes early gives you more options and your dog more good days.
Rosie is fourteen and still asks for her walk every morning. The joint plan made all the difference.
